Ken and I flew to Chicago Friday February 13, 2015. We were on the same flight as Gary and Lorna Broadhead. We all drove to Jenny and Russ's and arrived quite late. The girls were all sleeping. We had a great visit with Jen and Russ. It was just amazing being there.
Jenny's Relief Society President offered Ken and I to stay with them. We arrived at their home really late. They were still awake and welcomed us so warmly. We had our own bedroom and bathroom. It was very comfortable there. They gave us a key so we could come and go.
We arrived at the Church around 10:00 so we could set up table and chairs and decorate for the luncheon. The baptism was special just for Abigail. She looked so beautiful and was so excited. She was just like an angel. Grandma Leavitt and Grandma Broadhead gave the opening and closing prayers. Grandpa Broadhead gave a talk about Baptism and Grandpa Kennington gave a talk on the Holy Ghost. I was privileged to lead the music. Russell, Abi's Daddy, baptized her and confirmed her. He did a lovely job. There were many ward members and friends that came.
We had a luncheon in the cultural hall after. Jenny had prepared lovely decorations for the tables. They had taken pictures of Abi and had them on the tables with the flowers Jenny had made. Abi's favorite meal is Hawaiian haystacks. Jenny had prepared it before hand and had a lot of toppings to go on. It was so good. One of Jenny's ward friends made wonderful heart shaped cookies for dessert. One of Abi's friend from her old school came with her parents who are not members of the church. The sister missionary's sat by them during lunch and had a great conversation with them. The father said he would read the Book of Mormon. The Broadhead family are wonderful missionaries.
Church started at 9:00 a.m. the next morning. Russell gave Isabella a name and blessing. Her name is Isabella Ardele Broadhead. Ardele is a combination of Russell's grandma (Arlette who passed away January 1st 2015. The same day as Ken's Dad, Don) and Arlene Adele Kennington Jenny's Grandma. Isn't that special! Russ gave her a beautiful blessing. Isabella (Bella) is a very special little angel. When she looks at me she is looking right into my soul. It gives me goose bumps.
We had a wonderful Sabbath. We had dinner at Jenny and Russ's and just visited and had a great day. Grandpa's Broadhead and Kennington had a dance party with the girls Sunday evening. It was so much fun watching them. Even Russ got into the action. We had heard that Russ can do a mean worm dance but he chose not to show us. Oh well, maybe next time.
We flew home on Monday evening. It was so hard to say goodbye to them all. We love them all so much! Thank goodness for phones and Skype.
I have come to the realization that my newest grandchildren have been my guardian angels since I started this cancer journey. They were there on the other side helping me through it all. So whatever the future holds I know I have other grandchildren there that will help me out. That is a very comforting thought.
